SILAIRA Sleep Journal · Silk care
Cold hand wash. Mild silk-safe detergent. Towel press. Shade air dry. A finished sleep mask needs gentler care than a flat piece of silk.
You are washing a constructed object—not only a piece of silk.
A sleep mask combines silk surfaces with filling, shaped edges, a nose area, stitching, and a strap. Good care protects the whole construction.
That is why generic advice such as “silk can be washed” is incomplete. Start with the product’s own care instructions, then keep water, detergent, movement, and drying gentle.
The washing ritual
Six careful steps.
No hard scrubbing, twisting, machine agitation, or direct heat.
Read the product instructions.
Check the sleep mask’s care label or current product instructions before relying on general silk advice.
Prepare cold water.
Fill a clean basin with cold water. Hot water is unnecessary for routine silk sleep mask care.
Use very little mild detergent.
Choose a silk-safe or delicate-fabric detergent. More detergent does not mean a better wash.
Move gently, then rinse.
Do not scrub the silk surface, twist the nose area, or pull the fixed elastic strap.
Press with a clean towel.
Lay the mask flat, fold the towel over it, and press gently to remove excess water without wringing.
Air dry away from heat.
Let the mask dry naturally in shade. Avoid dryers, radiators, hair dryers, and direct sunlight.

Questions
What people usually ask.
Can every silk sleep mask be machine washed?
No. “Silk” identifies a fiber, not a washing permission. Machine wash a finished sleep mask only when the instructions for that exact model allow it. The regular SILAIRA 22 Momme mask specifies cold hand washing and must not be machine washed. A general silk-clothing guide does not override these product instructions.
Can I use this washing routine for a weighted eye mask?
Do not assume so. Check the instructions for the exact weighted mask, including how to care for its filling and whether any parts are removable. If its instructions are unclear, contact the brand before washing or soaking it. The regular SILAIRA mask’s hand-washing routine is not a substitute for weighted-mask care instructions.
Can I use regular laundry detergent?
Choose a mild detergent made for silk or delicate fabrics. Avoid bleach, harsh brighteners, and fabric softener unless the product instructions explicitly support them.
Can I soak it overnight?
No. Wash gently, rinse clean, press with a towel, and dry naturally.
Can I wring it out?
No. Press moisture out gently with a clean towel instead.
Does 22 Momme make it easier to wash?
No. Momme describes silk fabric weight. Care also depends on construction, filling, stitching, and the product instructions.
The lasting rule
Use less force, less heat, and more support.
Gentle handling protects the silk surface and the finished structure at the same time.
